PROBLEM

Grouptrail, a collaborative database platform, aimed to improve career readiness and educational access but faced challenges with navigation flows for profile registration and job shadow opportunities. Users struggled with complex workflows, leading to frustration and disengagement. The challenge was to create a seamless and intuitive experience for users to track progress and explore new opportunities efficiently.

SOLUTION

As a UX Designer on this project, I contributed to the end-to-end design process, starting with in-depth user research to identify pain points. I analyzed user journeys and designed an intuitive interface that streamlined onboarding and job shadow applications. Through iterative usability testing, I refined navigation flows to enhance accessibility and minimize cognitive load. The final design prioritized clarity, efficiency, and user engagement.

IMPACT

The redesigned platform significantly improved navigation efficiency, reducing the steps required for onboarding and job shadow applications. Internal usability testing showed enhanced task completion rates, with users completing key workflows faster and with fewer errors.

APPROACH

Our UX design process for Grouptrail centered around improving accessibility and navigation for students seeking job shadow opportunities. We began with competitive analysis to identify gaps in existing platforms and conducted user research to understand the needs of college students navigating career exploration. Insights from user interviews guided our ideation and sketching phase, where we explored various ways to simplify onboarding and streamline the job shadow search process.

Wireframing progressed from low to high fidelity, refining key features such as personalized recommendations, intuitive filtering options, and an application tracker to enhance user engagement. Usability testing with diverse participants helped identify pain points, such as unclear navigation labels and inconsistencies in filter accessibility. Iterative design updates addressed these concerns, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly interface.

SUMMARY

The final Grouptrail design offers an intuitive and structured approach to job shadow discovery, prioritizing clarity, efficiency, and user engagement. Through streamlined navigation, personalized career recommendations, and an improved application tracking system, the platform supports students in efficiently exploring career opportunities. While not publicly launched, the project demonstrated the effectiveness of a research-driven design process, showcasing the impact of iterative testing in improving digital career tools.
